The project assesses climate-induced water risks across the Tamil Nadu portion of the Chennai Basin using an interdisciplinary framework aligned with the IPCC AR5 approach. It evaluates 33 indicators under hazard, exposure, and vulnerability, with stakeholder-informed weighting to develop a Climate-Induced Water Risk Index identifying high-risk sub-basins. The WEAP model is applied to update the basin’s water balance and simulate future scenarios for domestic, irrigation, industrial, and environmental needs. The study also explores the potential of treated used water reuse to reduce freshwater demand. The outcomes will guide data-driven water management and climate resilience planning for the basin.
