The Climate Resilient Village Project is a transformative initiative that strengthens the ability of rural communities to face the challenges of a changing climate with confidence and dignity. Guided by detailed scientific assessments and rooted in community participation, this project aims to build villages that are safe, sustainable, and prepared for future climate uncertainties. The project reflects the commitment of the Government of Tamil Nadu to ensure that every village can grow and prosper while remaining environmentally secure and socially empowered.
Villages such as Kodiyakarai, Muthupet, Pichavaram, Rameswaram, Yercaud, Ooty, Hogenakkal, Pazhaverkadu, and Tiruchendur have been identified as demonstration locations representing diverse ecological regions including coastal belts mountain regions forest areas riverine settlements and tourism based communities. By working with such varied landscapes, the project showcases adaptable models of climate resilience that can be replicated across the state Climate Smart Villages list
