The Climate Education Initiative is a flagship programme of the Government of Tamil Nadu aimed at building a climate-aware and environmentally responsible society. Recognising the growing impacts of climate change on biodiversity, health, water resources, agriculture, and livelihoods, the initiative focuses on strengthening climate knowledge and sustainability practices among students across schools and colleges. Inspired by Tamil Nadu’s legacy of literacy movements, the programme integrates climate education into regular curricula and strengthens Eco Clubs as centres of climate action. Teachers from all districts will be trained as Climate Ambassadors to guide students and promote practical, eco-friendly actions, supported by a dedicated digital platform for learning and monitoring. The initiative also includes nature camps and a State-Level Climate Quiz Competition to enhance experiential learning, encourage student participation, and nurture informed, climate-resilient youth.
